Giants Open With Two Wins in Riverton

The Jackson Giants American Legion baseball team opened play on Sunday, traveling to Riverton and taking two games from the home-standing Raiders, 19-14 in seven innings and 7-2 in five innings. Ethan Moulder was the starting pitcher in the opener and left after three innings with the score tied at six, giving way to Christian Doyle. Doyle gave up six runs in the fourth before settling down and allowing only two runs and no hits over the next two innings. Meanwhile, in his first official at-bat of the season, Moulder hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Jackson exploded for 12 runs in the fifth, giving Doyle the win. Sean Sonderman pitched a scoreless seventh inning to wrap up the game for the Giants. Carlos Toledo went three-for-four at the plate, with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Mark Rossolo was two-for-four, scored three times and had two RBIs.

In the second game, Toledo was two-for-three and scored twice, Moulder added an RBI double, and Patrick Renz and Dillon White each had two-run singles. Andy Renz was the starter and picked up the win, going three innings, giving up one run on three hits. Brother Patrick pitched the final two innings and gave up one run on two hits. Next up for the Giants is a two-game set in Bozeman, MT, on Saturday.
